Sunday’s Showcase – What to do in the Vancouver Area Next Weekend
Can you believe that next weekend is already October? Fall is officially in full swing so put on a cozy sweater, grab a pumpkin latte and get out with the family to take it all in. Here are some fun activities to check out next weekend.
Doors Open Vancouver
Taking place on October 4th, this all-ages event takes visitors inside some of Vancouver’s most well-known buildings for a behind-the-scenes look. Experience firsthand Vancouver’s architectural, design, engineering and cultural heritage. Twenty buildings will be participating and the event is free but pre-registration is required for some of the venues.
The 2014 Vancouver Book Fair
In need of some new books to read? Then head over to the Vancouver Book Fair taking place October 4 and 5 at UBC Robson Square. In addition to rare and collectible works, there will also be plenty of children’s books, history, art and much more. It’s a fantastic way to encourage reading with your kids.
Bash the Trash
Looking to hear some live music? On October 5, the Vancouver Recital Society hosts Bash the Trash, a group of New York musicians that create and perform on instruments made from ordinary junk. Their performances combine with environmental awareness making for a wonderfully well-rounded afternoon of music the whole family can enjoy. And – kids get in for free!
The Lonsdale Quay Market hosts a weekend to Savour. This food and beverage festival will feature an array of fine foods both locally grown and imported to delight the senses. There will be cooking demos, tastings, contests, kids activities and more. It’s a great way to spend an afternoon – you probably won’t even need to cook dinner when you get home!
