Sunday’s Showcase – New Photography Books | Vancouver Photographer
They make perfect gifts and look great on the coffee table. Books of photography can really dress up a space. There are so many beautiful books on the market and it seems that new ones are being published everyday. No matter what the subject, there’s something out there for everyone’s taste. Here are some of my picks for the best recently-published photography books. Treat yourself or get one for someone you love.
David Bowie Is
Fans of both music and fashion will want to get their hands on this book that is like an all-access pass to the life and work of this living legend. Containing over 300 photographs, David Bowie Is traces the artist’s impact on not only the music scene but also art and fashion.
Detroit 1968
If you’re a fan of Mad Men or just want to get an insider’s look into life in the 1960’s, Detroit 1968 is a fascinating tome. Originally published in 1972 and just re-issued, the book delves into the lives of seemingly ordinary people throughout this one pivotal year. Detroit 1968 is a loving time-capsule of the city. Portraying an important era both socially and politically, it’s made even more poignant today in light of the city’s recent struggles.
Design Brooklyn
Fans of interior design will definitely want to add this book to their collections. Exploring the diverse architecture and design that makes up present-day Brooklyn, the book takes readers through restaurants, museums and even private residences. Over 150 original photographs bring New York’s borough of Brooklyn to life for even the most far-away reader.
Amber, Guinevereand Kate Photographed by Craig McDean: 1993-2005
If you or someone you know has an affinity for the world of 90’s fashion (remember Clueless or the grunge look?) then this is the book for you. Filled with beautiful photography by Craig McDean, this book focuses on three it-girls from the era that changed fashion for better or for worse.
