Sunday’s Showcase – What to do in the Vancouver Area Next Weekend | Vancouver Family Photographer
I can’t believe next weekend will already be June. Summer is right around the corner! Get out there and enjoy some family fun time with some of these activity ideas perfect for kids and adults.
Celebrate the re-opening of the famed St. Roch ship with the Raise the Sails family fun event at the Maritime Museum on Saturday, May 31. During the event, visitors can have their photo taken with a Mountie and his dog, go aboard a patrol boat, get airbrushed tattoos and of course, watch the hoisting of the St. Roch’s main sail. This is an event not to be missed.
Spend an evening at the International Summer Night Market. There are over 60 food booths as well as mini golf, a panda habitat, entertainment and prizes. The charge to enter is $2 per person, but kids under 48 inches tall get in for free. The best part is a portion of proceeds from the market benefit the Canadian Cancer Society and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
Check out the Vancouver International Children’s Festival. There will be performances from a variety of artists including a circus rendition of Alice in Wonderland, a puppet version of The Frog King and so much more. A selection of activities such as face-painting, origami, musical playgrounds and circus skills will also take place during the festival.
Cirque de Soleil is back in town with Totem – a journey of the human species throughout time. Taking much of its inspiration from myth, Totem tells of the evolution of species through acrobatics in a way only Cirque de Soleil can. Take the kids for a performance they’re sure not to forget any time soon. I’ve been, and it’s truly amazing. I brought my 5 year old daughter and she absolutely loved it. She was completely entranced by the performance. Vera (our newest little lovely) came too. Although she slept through it wearing protective earphones. I think she enjoyed it too.
