Sunday Showcase – What to do in the Vancouver Area Next Weekend

sunday showcase

Have you had enough of winter yet? Well, it’s sticking around for a while so I guess we need to get used to it. At least you can plan some fun indoor (and outdoor) activities to do with your family next weekend. Here are a few ideas.

Honu by the Sea

If you’re dreaming of escaping to a tropical island, look no further than the Vancouver Aquarium. This weekend, it’s presenting Honu bt the Sea, a Hawaiian musical. This family-friendly musical takes audiences on a journey with Kainoa, a Waikiki Beach boy who meets Malia the Honu and her ocean friends. It’s a fun and exciting journey through song, which inspires audiences to take care of the ocean and its creatures.

Take in an afternoon at the theatre as the Chilliwack School of Performing Arts presents The Addams Family. This original musical presents a new story in the lives of this wacky family. The Chilliwack is a non-profit youth theatre company that provides youth ages 3-18 with musical theatre training.

Vive les Voyageurs French-Canadian Festival

Head over to the Fort Langley National Historic Site to experience a little French-Canadian culture at this fun festival. Immerse yourself in 19th century traditions such as learning a Métis dance, try out finger-weaving and kids crafts, attend and sample at a baking presentation and listing to live Voyageur-style music. Of course there will also be lots of maple taffy and poutine to eat.

Vancouver International Boat Show

Thinking ahead to the fun activities of summer, why not check out the Vancouver International Boat Show? Even if you’re not in the market for a boat, there will be lots of fun, family-friendly activities to enjoy. This year’s event will take place in two convenient locations –  BC Place and Granville Island. So come on down for some fun in the sun (or at least you can pretend!)
